Herndon Parks and Recreation Wins Two Awards

Ann Marie Heiser, deputy director at Herndon Parks and Recreation Department, accepts the award for “Best Promotional Effort—Traditional” for the Herndon Festival Sponsorship Brochure this September at the annual Virginia Recreation and Park Service Conference. The 2011 Herndon festival special design T-shirt was also voted Best Promotional Effort—Specialty.

Nominations Due for Good Neighbor Award

The person next door who is always ready to help with neighborhood fix-it projects; the neighbor down the street who can be counted on to look after pets or keep watch on homes when owners are on vacation; the friend across the way who never fails to offer a smile, a wave, a hello and a helping hand; these are the good neighbors for whom the Town of Herndon is renowned, and the citizens who are celebrated as the town presents its Good Neighbor Award. Nominations are currently being accepted for the 2012 award; deadline for submissions is Oct. 26.

Residents of the town may nominate a family member, friend or neighbor who makes noteworthy contributions toward the quality of life in their neighborhoods. Recipients of the Good Neighbor Award must be residents of the Town of Herndon and the act(s) for which they are nominated may not have been performed as an element of paid employment.

Good Neighbor Award recipients will be recognized by the mayor and town council at an upcoming public meeting and will receive a commemorative gift.

Nomination forms for the 2012 Good Neighbor Award are available on the “Cultivating Community” page of the town’s website, www.herndon-va.gov. Forms are also available at the Herndon Municipal Center and the Neighborhood Resource Center; for more information, call 703/435-6800 X2084 or e-mail information@herndon-va.gov.
