Historic Vienna Collects Used Books

Historic Vienna, Inc. is collecting books for their 2013 Used Book Sale fundraiser. Books may be brought in to the Freeman Store, 131 Church St. N.E., during store hours (Wednesday-Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.) or left on the front porch at any time. Do not bring textbooks, encyclopedias, magazines or condensed books. The sale will be held on June 8 and 9 at the Community Center. Antiques Appraisers Come to Vienna

Historic Vienna, Inc. will host Antiques Appraisers Josephine Thrasher and Jim Johnson at the Freeman Store on Saturday, April 20, from noon until 4 p.m. Due to the popularity of this event, there is a strict limit of two items per person and appointments are necessary. The cost is $9.50 per item for members of Historic Vienna, Inc. and $14 per item for non-members, with all proceeds supporting the programs of HVI. To schedule an appointment, call 703-938-5187.

Tree Planting Ceremony in Honor of Arbor Day

The Town of Vienna and the Community Enhancement Commission invite the public to attend the annual Arbor Day ceremony on Friday, April 26, at 10 a.m. The tree planting ceremony will be held next to the W&OD Caboose in the Town’s Centennial Park on Church St. N.E., adjacent to the W&OD Trail.

Bike to Work Day is May 17

As part of National Bike Month, the annual Bike to Work Day is Friday, May 17, 2013. Commuter Connections and the Washington Area Bicyclists Association invite you to join over 10,000 area commuters for a celebration of bicycling as a clean, fun and healthy way to get to work.

The Vienna Town Green, 144 Maple Ave. W., will serve as one of more than 70 Bike to Work Day pit stops throughout Virginia, Maryland and D.C. that will welcome bicyclists with refreshments on Friday between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. All registered attendees of the Vienna Town Green will receive a free t-shirt and a chance to win bicycles and other prizes. Learn About Flowers in Time for Mother’s Day

Children ages 5 and up can learn about the parts of plants and potting flowers in “Flowers for Mom” on Friday, May 10, and/or Saturday, May 11, from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry St. S.E.

Participants will be able to take home a potted flower for mom, grandma, auntie or any other special mom in their life just in time for Mother’s Day.

The class is limited to 15 participants and a parent or guardian must attend with child. The cost per class is $10 for residents and $12.50 for out-of-town participants. Supplies are included.
