Friends of the Great Falls Freedom Memorial Elect New Officers

In early December, the Friends of the Great Falls Freedom Memorial Committee elected new officers: President - Andy Wilson; Vice President - Sandy Pidgeon; and Treasurer - Mike Kearney.

The Friends of the Great Falls Freedom Memorial was formed in 2002 with the mission to build a memorial site in Great Falls dedicated to the residents who have given their lives for our freedom. That Memorial was dedicated on Nov. 13, 2004 and is located beside the Great Falls Library. The Friends supports the mission with yearly ceremonial events on Memorial Day, 9-11 Remembrance, and Veterans Day plus educational programs.

They are always looking for people who would like to serve the community in a volunteer effort. If you are interested, please contact Andy Wilson at 703-450-5220.

Entertainers Thatcher and Favero Headline Senior Center’s February Event

The Great Falls Senior Center (GFSC) February event features a repeat performance of Todd Thatcher’s baritone vocals and Tony Favero’s stylish piano renditions. Their holiday musical offerings at GFSC’s December event were so well received that they merited a return performance on Feb. 4.

The second part of the program will feature an interactive discussion of “25 Inventions That Changed The World.” Guests will be asked to participate by nominating those inventions that they believe changed recent modern times--and certainly their own lives-for better or worse. The result will be a local perspective of the 25 developments that had, or are still having, worldwide impact in an uplifting, progressive or even provocative way.

The Feb. 4 event will be held at The United Methodist Church, 10100 Georgetown Pike, Great Falls. The program runs 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and includes lunch. A modest contribution is appreciated.

The event is being sponsored by the Rotary Club of Great Falls which provides members with an opportunity to make a contribution to their own community and the needy communities globally. The club can be reached on the web at rotarygreatfalls.org.
