Letter: Choosing Wisely In November

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor:

Franklin Roosevelt stated, “Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to do so wisely.” I recommend we choose Barbara Comstock instead of John Foust in the November election for our representative to the U. S. House of Representatives from the Virginia 10th District.

Whether you are a Democrat or Republican, the record shows that Barbara Comstock is the more qualified candidate, by virtue of her wide range of experience, as a successful mother and business professional, as a senior staff member for outgoing Congressman Frank Wolf, as a professional in the Justice Department handling public affairs, and currently as our very successful and highly respected delegate to the Virginia House of Delegates.

John Foust has been a fairly effective member of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and has helped citizens of Great Falls with some but not all issues. Somewhat problematic, he has consistently supported higher taxes. He has recently accepted massive campaign funding from National Democrats including Nancy Pelosi, and in exchange has pledged support for Obamacare and other issues. We should much prefer someone beholding only to his conscience and his constituents.

Gerry Connolly, Tim Kaine, and Mark Warner have been consistent followers of the Democratic answer to problems, and have not been leaders in the Congress. Electing John Foust would not make the House more effective.

John Kennedy once said, “Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer.” Barbara Comstock was clearly the first choice from six Republican primary candidates. Because of her leadership, she will quickly become a leader in the House of Representatives, and work with her peers in both parties to find the right answers to the continuing problems of health care, economy, and defense of our Nation. She is well known at all levels, District, State and National. She has a high degree of respect of military service personnel, and has been endorsed by numerous business organizations.

Barbara Comstock is a highly principled legislative leader. She has sponsored a wide range of important legislation that has become law in Virginia, including improved diagnosis of Lyme disease, congenital defects, improving the business climate important to creating high tech jobs in Northern Virginia and saving tax money during Metro contracting.

She also created a Young Women’s leadership Organization to teach motivated young people on solving problems of today, and become leaders for tomorrow. She clearly is sensitive to issues affecting women, including workplace, family, and medical issues.

Her constituent service is exemplary. She is always accessible to hear an issue, and always responsive. She listens carefully as people describe a problem, and then works across party lines, to prepare legislation if needed. Barbara Comstock advocates a conservative approach to limiting Federal Government involvement in our lives. She believes in low taxes, and protection of our Constitutional Bill of Rights.

Therefore, I highly recommend we all support Barbara Comstock to become our Representative to the U. S. House of Representatives. She is a winner and the wise choice in November!
