(From left) are Joe Charley with Firefighters Union 2702, Fairfax City Mayor Scott Silverthorne and Fairfax City Fire Chief Dave Rohr, with Councilman David Meyer looking on, as Silverthorne proclaims October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Since 2012, firefighters have raised $250,000 for breast-cancer research, and Fairfax firefighters and paramedics are wearing and selling special t-shirts (like Charley’s) to raise funds to contribute to the Susan G. Komen foundation. To purchase a shirt, go to Fire Station 3 on 4081 University Drive in Fairfax; size, style and price information is available at www.fairfaxfire.org.
