Alexandria Brief: Twig Offers New Cookbook

Learn how to make Buzz Bakeshop’s red velvet cupcakes, Clyde’s jumbo lump crab cakes, the Landini Brothers’ carbonara or recipes from 41 Alexandria restaurants in The Twig’s new cookbook, “Alexandria - Favorite Restaurants - Best Recipes.”

This 144-page spiral bound cookbook is now available for purchase. Single copies are $25 with tax, and may be purchased online at www.thetwig.org or at The Twig’s Thrift Shop, 106 N. Columbus Street, Alexandria. Orders of 50 or more will receive a 10 percent discount and not be charged sales tax.

The Twig, the junior auxiliary for Inova Alexandria Hospital, has published this cookbook. For the past year, Twig members worked with chefs from 41 restaurants for permission to reprint favorite recipes. All recipes were tested by members of The Twig and adjusted for the home cook.

The Office of Historic Alexandria is also selling the cookbook. Copies may be purchased at The Lyceum, Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, and the Apothecary, and Alexandria’s Museum Store at the Old Town Hilton, all in Old Town Alexandria.

The Twig, the Junior Auxiliary for Inova Alexandria Hospital, is a non-profit organization of women dedicated to providing financial aid, volunteer service, and support to Inova Alexandria Hospital, which was originally established by volunteers in 1933 by a group of 24 young women who gathered at the home of Mrs. Julian T. Burke.

The organization recently announced a new $1 million pledge to the hospital, toward renovations for the hospital’s Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). The pledge will be payable over an 8-year period. Sales of the cookbook will go toward this pledge.
