Community members Helen Fransell, Don Fransell and Joe Chudzik of Mason Neck volunteered in a clean up of a section of Pohick Creek in Lorton, organized by the Mason Neck Lions Club. The trio worked on a segment adjacent to the Williamsburg Square Homeowners Association between Richmond Highway and Lorton Road bridges.

Chudzik said the small group removed eight bags of litter and other trash, including beverage containers and food wrappers, as well as two shopping carts, a bicycle and a drive axle, among other debris. Another shopping cart, folding lawn chair, eight-foot steel roof truss and tire were all deeply embedded in the streambed silt and left behind.
