On Oct.11, the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) celebrated its 125th Anniversary with chapters throughout the nation participating in a Day of Service to the community. Anna Maria Fitzhugh Chapter in Springfield worked with the Fairfax County Cemetery Preservation Association and Boy Scout Troop 1835 to clean up historic Clark’s Chapel Cemetery located at 7520 Rolling Road. The joint effort included cleaning out underbrush, litter, fallen branches, as well as cutting down and trimming trees. Only six of the 30 burial locations have markers. Other gravesites are marked with stones or are unmarked. Grave locations and possible grave locations were mapped and marked. Boy Scout Troop 1835 assembled a park bench and installed a beautiful sign identifying the name of the cemetery. DAR members planted flowers and marked unnamed grave sites with pea gravel.
