Thank you for choosing to make Fairfax County your new home! As you will quickly find out, there is no shortage of activities here, and let me be the first to tell you what’s going on around town.

As summer winds down, and we all make the long trip back from the beach, you’ll notice that there are a ton of events throughout September in which to take part. Personally, one of my favorite events in the Braddock District is the annual Burke Centre Festival, set this year for Sept. 10 and 11. Admission is free, and this year’s festival will feature a massive arts and crafts show, karaoke, Fire and Rescue displays, live dance, musical entertainment, and much, much more. This event is incredible (and incredibly huge) so you owe it to yourself to come out and enjoy it.

As much as I love talking with my constituents and neighbors, I also enjoy taking some time to relax with nature. There are more than 900 miles of trails here in Fairfax County, and I am a particularly lucky Supervisor in that I represent a district with some fantastic parks and trails. One of my favorite spots is Lake Accotink, which boasts a carousel, bike rentals, a great snack bar, and mini golf. Accotink has a sand volleyball and basketball court that you can take full advantage of, and, on some Saturday nights, Accotink even hosts campfires and gatherings. Events like these, focused on community involvement and interconnectedness, help make the Braddock District and Fairfax County the best places to be.

Yes, summer is almost over, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to be! Grab your friends, the family, and head out to Mount Vernon, Ox Hill Battlefield Park, or another famed historical site in the County and soak it all in. You can barely get around here without stumbling upon something with historical significance, and most of these treasures are totally free! There are great sites, great restaurants, and a ton of things to do and see in my district. Grab a bite to eat over at Fairfax Corner or head into Fairfax City for the day. The possibilities are truly endless.

Take full advantage of everything the Braddock District, and Fairfax County, has to offer with your friends and family. In these next few weeks, I challenge you to get out there and find out what you love to do in our community- just don’t be overwhelmed with all the options!
