Burke Presbyterian Church (BPC) youth are presenting “Godspell” (2012 revised version) this weekend, Feb. 25-28. Showtimes are 7 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday, and 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free, but the youth will collect free will donations to support their various mission projects throughout the year.

The show is based on the Gospel of Matthew and was originally performed off Broadway in 1971. BPC’s version is based on a more recent Broadway revival. This show consists of several “shows within a show,” featuring Jesus’ most well-known parables. Many of its songs have become mainstays of American pop culture, including “Day by Day,” “Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord,” “Light of the Word,” and “We Beseech Thee.”

More than 30 youth are part of the BPC cast and crew, and most attend Robinson Secondary and Lake Braddock Secondary schools.

BPC has been presenting musicals since 1997, with adult volunteers helping as producers, directors, band members, musical, set and technical directors and costume designers.

Some tickets still are available, especially for the Thursday show, so email tickets@burkepreschurch.org to make your reservation.

Burke Presbyterian Church is at 5690 Oak Leather Drive, Burke. Learn more about the church by going to www.burkepreschurch.org.
