Fraud Warning: Fraudulent Telephone Calls
A resident of the Town of Herndon reported he was the target of a recent fraud attempt by a male subject posing as a credit card company representative. The resident received an automated call from a phone number that the caller ID indicated was from the “Town of Herndon.”The automated call instructed the resident to press “9” if he wished to reduce the APR on his current credit cards. The resident pressed “9” and was connected to a male subject who began to engage him in a conversation. At this point the resident realized the call was some type of scam and hung-up.
The Town of Herndon never initiates automated calls. If you receive an automated call with a caller ID indicating the call is coming from the Town of Herndon hang-up immediately and contact the Herndon Police at 703-435-6846.
