Food for Kids Drive Continues in Herndon

Assistance League of Northern Virginia held its 2016-17 Weekend Food for Kids Kickoff event on Sept. 15 at Dominion Resources, 3072 Centreville Road, in Herndon. Nearly 90 volunteers from Assistance League, Dominion and the community joined together to help pack 1,500 bags of food for children living in food-insecure households. Immediately following the event, food was delivered to six Title I schools in Fairfax and Prince William Counties and the City of Alexandria. Last year, the program provided more than 13,500 bags of nonperishable food to children most in need. Event is open to the public and repeats at 10 a.m. on the third Thursday of each month during the school year. Arrive at 9:30 a.m. to help with setup.
