Joshua Owusu, a sixth grade student at Stratford Landing Elementary School lost his battle with brain cancer on Tuesday, Sept. 26. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, Oct. 8, 11 a.m., at Aldersgate Church, 1301 Collingwood Drive. A reception will immediately follow in Wesley Hall. Burial will be in Mount Comfort Cemetery, 6600 S. Kings Highway at 2:30 p.m.

In an announcement of the funeral, Maureen Marshall, SLES principal, wrote: “Joshua joined the Stratford Landing community from Groveton Elementary School as part of the Advanced Academics Program here at Stratford Landing. If you did not have the pleasure of encountering Joshua, he was a happy, charismatic child, whose smile could brighten anyone’s day. He was loved by all who knew him.

“Joshua had a seizure at home, which caused him to be hospitalized and from which he was unable to recover. A few staff members who worked closely with Joshua and his family and were able to sit with the family to say their goodbyes, as well as offer support in the next steps of the process. As a community, I know many are eager and wondering what can be done to support the family during this difficult time. Aldersgate Church has set up a donation fund to provide for a funeral and burial for Josh. Please consider contributing:”
