The Closet of Greater Herndon recently awarded $15,000 in college scholarships to 12 high school graduates in ceremonies at five local high schools. The 2017 scholarship recipients are:
Herndon High School: Zakariyah Bahai Ahmed, Marcus Gabriel Serrano Bengzon, and Laura Elizabeth Saunders
Mountain View High School: Sharon Pamela Chavarria
Oakton High School: Saba Arjmand and Ji-Yoon Kim
Park View High School: Jillian Duong, Vy Thuy Tran, and Yen Thai Truong
South Lakes High School: Asma Hatim Ibrahim, Amna Kayani, and Zoya Haroon Virk
Since 1974 The Closet has awarded nearly $500,000 in college scholarships to more than 440 students. In this same 43 year period, The Closet has distributed nearly $3 million in direct cash grants to local service groups, of which the scholarship program is an important part.
