Crime Report: The following incidents were reported by the Mount Vernon District Police Station.

ROBBERY: 7100 block of Mint Place. March 20, 8:44 p.m. A 42-year old man was walking toward his apartment building when he was approached by two men who asked him for money. The victim attempted to run away, but the suspects caught him, knocked him to the ground and repeatedly kicked and punched him. A passerby saw this and yelled, causing the suspects to stop the assault and run away. The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspects were described as black, in their early 20s, both skinny and wearing all black clothing.

BURGLARY: 2200 block of Huntington Avenue. March 18, 5:03 p.m. A witness saw two unidentified men break the front glass door and enter the business. The witness went to another nearby business to call police. The suspects fled in what is believed to be a red Dodge Durango.

SUSPICIOUS PACKAGE: 6000 Block of Richmond Hwy. March 14, 4:58 p.m. A man arrived at the business around noon carrying a large black duffle bag. He sat down in the business center to use a computer. He got up several times and walked around the business. He then placed a mask over his face and stated that they needed to evacuate the business. He retrieved two packages that were wrapped in paper, that he had apparently placed in front of the business. He also took a large knife from his duffel bag and waved it in the air. He demanded that the business call the police, which they did. Officers arrived on scene and took the suspect into custody. They found the packages and set up a wide perimeter outside the business. The business was partially evacuated and the Explosives Ordnance Disposal Unit, also known as the bomb squad, was contacted and responded to examine the packages and the duffle bag. An X-ray of the packages and duffle bag revealed a number of random, non-lethal items. The suspect, 31-year-old man from Louisiana was charged with utilizing a hoax device, threats to burn, and wearing a mask in public.

ROBBERY/ARREST: Arlington Drive/Republic Court, March 10 around 8:38 p.m. The victim was walking outside when a man and two teenaged boys approached him. One suspect displayed a handgun. The victim attempted to flee but the suspects assaulted him and took his wallet. All three suspects were located and arrested a short time later. An 18-year-old man from Lanham, Md., was charged with robbery with the use of a weapon and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. The other suspects, 15 and 16 years old, were each charged with robbery with the use of a weapon and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

COMMERCIAL ROBBERY: 6233 Richmond Highway, March 11 around 8 p.m. A man entered the store and displayed a handgun. The suspect demanded money and fled with undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect was described as white, with a thin build, 6 feet to 6 feet 3 inches tall, and had a yellow beard. He was wearing black pants, a black hooded sweatshirt, black gloves, and his face was covered.

ASSAULT: 7900 block of Richmond Highway, March 12 around 3:30 p.m. Two men were inside a WalMart store acting suspiciously. A loss prevention employee, a 23-year-old man, believed one suspect had concealed merchandise. As they exited the store, the employee followed them and the two suspects took off running. The victim attempted to notify the neighboring business about the incident when he saw one suspect run past then turn toward him. The victim heard what sounded like a gunshot but did not see a weapon. The suspect was described as black, in his 20s, about 6 feet 1-inch-tall and 200 pounds, wearing a black jacket with white stripes and blue pants. The other suspect was described as black, in his 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 140 pounds. No one was injured.

ASSAULT ON LAW ENFORCEMENT: 7300 block of Richmond Highway, March 8, 5:59 p.m. Officers responded for the report of a man in a check cashing store, waving a gun around. They located the man who appeared to be extremely intoxicated and possibly under the influence of an unknown narcotic. The man was placed under arrest and at some point, became combative with officers; kicking them, and spitting and urinating on them. A 34-year-old man from Suitland, Md., was taken to the Adult Detention Center and charged with disorderly conduct, drunk in public, possession of suspected PCP, felony destruction of property (for kicking and damaging a police vehicle), and two counts of assault on law enforcement.

TRAFFIC PURSUIT/PWID OF MARIJUANA/ARREST: Richmond Highway/Quander Road, March 7, around 6 p.m. Officers attempted to stop a car for a traffic violation when the driver took off and refused to stop. Responding officers assisted in getting the suspect’s car stopped and found two young children inside. Additionally, narcotics were found in the car. A 27-year-old woman from Alexandria was arrested, taken to the Adult Detention Center and charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and eluding law enforcement.
