Pedestrian Killed in Crash in Mount Vernon

The Mount Vernon Police District’s Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating after a pedestrian was hit and killed around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8. Detectives believe 51-year-old Nelissa Alston, of Alexandria, was attempting to cross Richmond Highway near Fort Hunt Road. The driver of a 2015 Lexus RC 350, who was traveling southbound on Richmond Highway hit Alston. She was not in a crosswalk. Fairfax County Fire and Rescue personnel responded and pronounced her dead. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with detectives. Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors.
