Vienna Police Highlights March 20 – March 26, 2020

The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from March 20 – March 26, 2020.

INCIDENTS

Grand Larceny -- 1000 Block Cottage Street, SW Jan. 20, 4:12 p.m. In January, a resident ordered two cell phones that UPS indicates were delivered to his residence on Jan. 20. The resident believes someone took the delivery.

Telephone Case -- 200 Block Paris Court, SW Between Jan. 29 at 12 a.m. and March 23 at 12:30 p.m. A resident reported that her ex-boyfriend had been continuously harassing her by phone and through text messages. This case is being investigated.

Grand Larceny -- 400 Block Center Street, North Between March 8 at 7 a.m. and March 21 at 12 p.m. A resident reported that someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole a backpack containing a camera and camera lenses.

Grand Larceny -- 500 Block McKinley Street, NE Between March 16 at 12 p.m. and March 18 at 3:55 p.m. A resident reported that four checks were stolen from her mail.

Petit Larceny -- 400 Block Echols Street, SE March 18, 9:46 p.m. A resident reported that an unknown person stole a package from his front porch.

Juvenile Case -- Beulah Road and Creek Crossing Road, NE March 20 between 2:36 a.m. and 3 a.m. Officers responded to the report of a group of juveniles being disorderly and banging on the door of a residence. When officers arrived, they heard more noise coming from the area of the 200 block of Maple Avenue, East. Officers observed two of the juveniles in the Jammin Java parking lot. One of the juveniles fled on foot; the other was stopped by an officer. The juvenile was transported to the Vienna Police Station, where he was released to the custody of his father.

Lost Property -- 100 Block Maple Avenue, West March 20 between 7 a.m. and 12:41 p.m. A citizen reported that she lost her driver’s license and a bank card in the parking lot.

Destruction of Property -- 400 Block Church Street, NE March 20 between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. A citizen reported that his vehicle was legally parked in the parking lot when someone vandalized it with paint.

Vehicle Tampering -- 1200 Block Cottage Street, SW March 21 at 12:39 a.m. A resident observed two people in her vehicle, which had been left unlocked and parked on the roadway. The two people fled northbound on Cottage Street. The resident reported that a vape pen was missing from the vehicle.

Vehicle Tampering -- 100 Block Yeonas Drive, SW March 21, 1:31 a.m. A resident reported that his security camera showed two people entered his unlocked vehicle. The resident reported that US currency and gift cards were taken from the vehicle.

Assault 20-002894 Dollar Tree 215 Maple Avenue, West March 21, 5:15 p.m. A customer reported that a cashier began making harassing comments to him. The customer went to the manager to file a complaint. As the customer was leaving the store, the cashier approached him and assaulted him. The customer responded by striking the cashier. The cashier then abruptly left the store. An officer spoke to the cashier who provided the same account of the incident. Both parties were advised of the warrant process should they wish to pursue charges.

Animal Case – Quarantine -- Hope Advanced Veterinary Center 140 Park Street, SE March 21, 8 p.m. A technician was bitten by a cat during a medical procedure. The cat resides in Fairfax County. The Fairfax County Animal Control will follow up on the quarantine.

Animal Case -- 900 Block Lauren Lane, SE March 21, 9:47 p.m. A resident reported a sick raccoon in his yard. Officers found the raccoon was in grave condition and euthanized the animal.

Assist EMS -- CVS 264 Cedar Lane, SE March 22, 11:39 p.m. Officers responded to assist rescue personnel with a drug overdose. A woman was transported to an area hospital after taking a large quantity of an over-the-counter medication.

Suspicious Event -- Vienna Police Station 215 Center Street, South March 23, 12:14 a.m. A man drove into the parking lot of the police station seeking assistance because he was being followed by occupants in another vehicle that he was acquainted with. The man had been visiting with the others at a home in Falls Church when they became involved in an argument. The man left the home and the others began following him. All parties agreed to have no further contact with each other.

Suspicious Event -- 400 Block Onondio Circle, SE March 23, 12:32 a.m. A resident reported that a vehicle drove near their residence, two individuals got out of the vehicle and one began banging on their door. The individual then fled the area in the vehicle. The same resident had several similar incidents several months ago.

Suspicious Event -- 500 Block Nanterry Circle, SW March 23 between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Last week a resident reported two individuals who came to her home soliciting for T-Mobile without a Town License. Today, she found that someone had written T-Mobile on her driveway in chalk. Someone did the same thing on the curb earlier in the week.

Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated -- Park Street and Adahi Road, SE March 23, 4:16 p.m. An officer observed a driver commit a traffic offense and initiated a traffic stop. Upon the officer’s interaction with the driver, he detected signs of impairment. The driver failed to complete a series of field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. MPO Lose transported the 29-year-old woman from Raleigh Avenue in Alexandria to the Vienna Police Station, where she provided a sample of her breath for analysis. The woman was then transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with Driving While Intoxicated

Arrest – Warrant Service -- Vienna Police Station 215 Center Street, South March 23, 5:23 p.m. A man came to the Vienna Police Station advising that the Charlottesville Police Department held an active warrant for him. MPO Smith served the warrant, charging Possession of Fictitious Driver’s License on the 19-year-old man from Carriage Court in Vienna. The man was released on his signature.

Vehicle Tampering -- 200 Block Commons Drive, NW Between March 24 at 6:30 p.m. and March 25 at 8:30 a.m. A resident reported that someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole US currency.

Vehicle Tampering -- 100 Block Roland Court, SW Between March 24 at 7 p.m. and March 25 at 7 a.m. A resident reported that someone rummaged through her unlocked vehicle. Nothing appeared to have been taken.

Open Door -- Oxanna Boutique 448 Maple Avenue, East March 26, 5:15 a.m. An officer found an unsecured door at the boutique. Nothing in the business appeared to have been disturbed.

CRASHES

200 Block Maple Avenue, West -- March 20, 5:18 p.m. Vehicle-1 was traveling eastbound on Maple Avenue when the driver fell asleep, crossed into the westbound lanes and struck a utility pole. Driver-1 was issued a summons charging Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.

300 Block Maple Avenue, East -- March 21, 2 p.m. Two vehicles were traveling westbound in the right lane on Maple Avenue. Vehicle-2 slowed in traffic and was rear-ended by Vehicle-1. Driver-1 was issued a summons charging Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.

200 Block Cedar Lane, SE March 26, 6:13 p.m. Vehicle-2 was legally parked in the parking lot when it was struck by Vehicle-1, an unknown vehicle. Driver-1 fled the scene without providing their information.
