Center Opens
THE NEWLY COMPLETED Yorktown Aquatic Center held a ribbon cutting and grand opening on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 15. A free swim day attracted water enthusiasts.The pool is located at Yorktown High School and may be accessed by entering door #3. Hours of operation are: Sunday- noon to 6 .pm.; Monday through Friday-5:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., noon to 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Saturday- 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Read more...

DC Tattoo Expo draws

INK AFICIONADOS FROM across the country crowded the Crystal Gateway Marriot in Arlington for the second DC Tattoo Expo, held Jan. 12-15. Organizers estimated that twice as many people were in attendance as the previous year’s event. "Tattoo conventions in D.C. have been tried before, but they never had the local expertise and weren’t marketed well," said Greg Piper, organizer of the DC Tattoo Expo and owner of the Manassas-based Exposed Temptations Tattoo. LONG DISTANCES RACES require advanced preparation, determination and grit. 1K wine walks, on the other hand, require a willingness to step outside of boundaries and try new tastes.
The second annual 1K Wine Walk at Crystal City’s underground shopping district was produced by the Washington Wine Academy and the Crystal City Business Association. The Jan. 14 and 15 effort promoted new tastes as well as area shopping. Read more...
