Burke first responders Lt. Earl Burroughs, Master Technician William Kight, Technician Eric Wyatt, Capt. David Conrad, Technician Robert Ritchie, Master Technician John McDonell, Technician Robin Clement and Firefighter/Medic Joseph Deutsch were honored for their heroism at the March 21 Fairfax County Valor Awards.

Burke firefighters honored for heroism.
The water was swiftly rising, surrounding a police officer trapped on the hood of his vehicle during the deadly flash flooding that devastated the region on Sept. 8, 2011. By the time first responders from Burke Fire Station 14 arrived on the scene in Great Falls, a rescue boat had already tried and failed to reach the stranded officer.
