Appreciating Volunteers

Volunteers were honored at the 16th annual Advisory Board Volunteer Appreciation Night by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services, June 24 at the Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum.

Those honored included:

Carol Ann Kost, of the Advisory Commission on Youth, has been its “volunteer extraordinare.”

Mary Koditek, of Arcola Community Center Advisory Board, has been a member of the board for over five years.

Tracey Hosseinian, of the Bluemont Community Center Advisory Board, has played a major role in each and every event held at the center over the past two years.

Ray Ehrenbeck, of the Commission on Aging, has been a contributor to the Area Agency on Aging for many years.

Sheri Zoldos, of the Douglass Community Center Advisory Board, has been instrumental in the success of the center.

Henry Plaster, of E.E. Lake Store (Bluemont Citizens’ Association), has been involved with the E.E. Lake Store Project from the beginning.

Hilary Quinn, of Friends of Banshee Reeks, has been an important part of the Banshee Reeks Art in Nature Festival and regular Saturday Volunteer Workday for the last two years.

Katherine Ann Summers, of Friends of Carver Center, has done much to help bring Carver Center back to life as a senior center, adult day center and general-use facility by developing programs for the community and writing a play which will be performed this summer.

Wilma Fisher, of Friends of Franklin Park, has given many volunteer hours to the park.

Dr. James Kendall, of Friends of Franklin Park Performing and Visual Arts Center, is a Tai Chi instructor and has worked as a volunteer instructor for more than 200 hours over the last two years.

(Ronald T.) R.T. Legard Jr., of Friends of the Heritage Farm Museum, has provided technical assistance and historical information that contributed to the development of the Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum.

Gilbert “Doc” Ashby, of Friends of the Loudoun County Adult Day Center, has accomplished much in the few months he has served.

John Kelly, of Friends of the Slave Quarters, has helped the Friends of the Slave Quarters project with of his expertise and hard work.

Joe Motheral, of Friends of the Stone House at Harper Park, has dedicated his efforts to publicity and fund raising.

Rebecca Fitzgerald, of Lanesville Heritage Preservation Society, was a main reason why Claude Moore Park was added to the Civil War Trails Map. She made the initial contact about it and followed through every step of the way, which is one of the reasons why she was named Lanesville Heritage Preservation Society’s 2002 Volunteer of the Year.

Chris Elerdo, of Loudoun County Adult Sports Advisory Council, is always available to answer staff’s questions, which helps them better understand adult sports needs and issues.

Barbara Marshall, of Loudoun County Senior Center at Leesburg Advisory Board and Senior Services Advisory Board, has helped both the Senior Center and Senior Advisory Board.

Erin Bucci, of Loudoun Valley Community Center Advisory Board, has been instrumental in implementing and improving the center’s programs and activities throughout her four years of service.

Kelly Tejada, of Lovettsville Community Center Advisory Board, joined the board two years ago and has helped enable the board to increase its fund-raising efforts.

Paul Garvin, of Lucketts Community Center Advisory Board Serving Loudoun County, Va. Inc., dealt with the issue of staging the Bluegrass concerts at the Lucketts Community Center by booking the bands for this year and next year, starting a concert Web site and working every Saturday night at the center to deal with tickets and problems.

Judith Lindsay, of Mount Zion Church Preservation Association Inc., has been an asset in almost every possible area for the church, from artwork to conducting tours and fund raising.

Joe Maio, of the Open Space Advisory Committee, has made commendable preservation efforts.

Stephanie Doyle, of Parks and Recreations Advisory Board, fields calls from concerned citizens on a regular basis. She has also been recognized by the Special Olympics of Virginia-Loudoun County. She drives athletes to and from practices and competitions, which is often the only way they can get there.

B.J. Mancini, of Philomont Community Center Advisory Board, has served as treasurer on the Philomont Community Center Advisory Board for several years and formed the first ever Home Tour of Philomont.

Peggy Low, of RSVP Advisory Board, has volunteered for more than 13 years with various organization in addition to the RSVP Advisory Council. Through her volunteer work, she has helped senior citizens and people with disabilities complete and file their taxes and understand Medicare.

Tom Vecchio, of Senior Center at Cascades Marketplace Advisory Board, was instrumental in the design process of the senior center and the volunteer overseer of the center’s construction.

Robynn Berquist, of the Special Recreation Advisory Board, is the person they go to if they need a volunteer. Her top concern is that participants receive the best programs possible and that is reflected by her hard work.

Jessie Chambers, of the Sterling Annex Community Center Advisory Board, is the leader and choreographer of the “Gotta Dance Troupe,” which performs for hospitals and senior centers across Loudoun County.

Lillian Cephas, of the Sterling Community Center Advisory Board, is the vice chair of the board in addition to being a leader for the Girl Scouts for more than a decade.

Carol Padgett, of VSA arts of Virginia-Loudoun County, has been the secretary of the VSA art of Virginia-Loudoun County Advisory Board for two years. She has also been stage manager for two recent productions and an asset to the VSA arts programs in Loudoun County.
