<bt>A store manager found a live mortar at Sterling Mower Monday, June 25.
Kraig Troxell, spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, said the store manager found the mortar round while he was testing a tiller on the property. When he found the shell, he contacted the Sheriff’s Office, who sent the bomb squad to the property. The bomb squad called in the U.S. Army who determined the mortar to be live.
The U.S. Army transported the mortar shell to Marine Corps Base Quantico where it was disposed of, Troxell said. No one was injured.
