[“Barking Up The Right Tree,” May 2.] A crucial stipulation of a Fairfax County police officer’s park traffic hearing testimony could prevent that, however: Because Fort Hunt Road’s immediate north and southbound approaches to the park are the center section of a blind S curve, the officer stipulated only entry and exit right turns be permitted. No left turns into or out of the park should be allowed.

Teen Safe Driving Program Visits Inova

Representatives from the Ford Driving Skills for Life (DSFL) program managed by the Ford Motor Company Fund, Ford’s philanthropic arm, stopped by Inova Children's Hospital on Wednesday, Oct. 2 to highlight with leadership and staff some of the main causes of car crashes involving teenagers, including inexperience and distracted driving. Those in attendance also got to hear personal stories from those that work in the trauma unit who regularly witness the outcomes of these types of crashes.

Flint Hill School announces “An Evening of Laughter,” a production of four one-act plays to be held on Nov. 1 and 2. Six upper school students will perform roles in each of four one-act plays. "I love the one-act and short play format for many reasons,” says director and upper school drama teacher Carlo Grossman. “Besides the variety of different pieces the audience gets to enjoy, the actors have an opportunity to stretch their acting skills with roles different plays. In this case, the theme is comedy and the fun is infectious."

Public Forum to Discuss Tysons Transportation Funding

After seventeen months of deliberation, County officials have developed a plan for the Board of Supervisors on how to fund an estimated $3.1 billion in additional transportation needed to support the transformation of Tysons into an urban center. County residents will now have an opportunity to hear planners discuss the recommendations at a public forum. The McLean Citizens Association hosts the meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 2, from 7:30–9:30 p.m. at the McLean Community Center, 1234 Ingleside Ave., McLean.

Herndon to Host Labor Day Festival

This year’s 24th annual Herndon Labor Day Festival will feature a wide range of live music, twelve Virginia wineries, local microbreweries, a craft show, sponsorship gallery, culinary demonstrations and a variety of food vendors. The Town of Herndon Parks and Recreation Department produces the event working in conjunction with the Herndon Woman’s Club. Partial proceeds go to scholarship programs.

McLean Kitchen and Garden Tour Planned for May 1

On Wednesday, May 1 (rain date: May 2), the Woman’s Club of McLean will mount the community’s first Kitchen and Garden Tour. The hours of the tour will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Set in Countryside Estates in west McLean (the same area that was featured in the club’s 2010 Holiday Homes Tour), the event will focus on the kitchens and gardens of six large homes situated on one-acre lots.
