NOVA Women Capture State Basketball Crown
Vienna’s Carlie Zirkle earns MVP honors.
The Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) women’s basketball team won the 2012 Virginia Community College System (VCCS) Championship by defeating Southside Virginia Community College, 48-26. The tournament was held March 2-4 in Chesapeake. Former Marshall High standout Carlie Zirkle (Vienna) received the most valuable player honor and was named to the All-Tournament team, along with Halley Cummins (Vienna) and Yvette Gilliam (Woodbridge).
Spring Festival Comes Back to Great Falls
Optimist Club to host annual egg hunt and children’s festival.
The Sunday before Easter, the children of Great Falls will gather at the Village Green to search for eggs filled with candy, and in some cases, something even more valuable. The annual Spring Festival and Egg Hunt will be hosted by the Great Falls Optimist Club and will feature more than 5,000 eggs scattered across the green.
Vienna Egg Hunt Draws Hundreds

Amid great fanfare, a rather large fuzzy, furry Easter bunny arrived at Freeman House grounds on March 31, kicking off the annual Easter egg hunt and roll sponsored by the Town of Vienna Parks and Recreation and Historic Vienna, Inc.

The Alden Presents ‘The Lion’s Whiskers’ Puppet Show on April 26
The Alden's McLean Kids Performance Series continues on Saturday, April 26, at 2 p.m. with Catskill Puppet Theater in "The Lion's Whiskers." Tickets are $15, $10 for MCC district residents. The Alden is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue, inside the McLean Community Center. A delightful musical adaptation of a traditional Ethiopian folktale, “The Lion’s Whiskers” features a charming cast of human characters as well as African animals. When lonely Minya marries a widowed man with a son, she goes to a wise man for advice. He tells her that in order to win the heart of the little boy she must first pluck three whiskers from a wild lion. In doing so, she not only finds the courage to tame the lion, but also the secret to gaining the love of her new family.

Postponed because of snow, Westfield High’s Winter One-Act Play Festival has been rescheduled to Sunday, March 9 in the school theater. On the bill are comedy, drama and even a full-length musical. Here’s what’s on tap:
TC Girls’ Track Places Second, Boys’ Third at Regionals
The T.C. Williams girls’ track and field team finished second at the Northern Region championship meet on May 24-25 at Robinson Secondary School, finishing behind only South County. The TC boys’ team had a chance to win the region title, but finished third due to a disqualification in the 4x400-meter relay event. Annandale finished first, followed by Westfield.

Delegate Plum may be granted a modicum of exultation, although his commentary "Silver Line No Silver Bullet" (Connection, July 2-8, 2014) could well qualify as the understatement of the decade. He recognized from the outside that Rail to Dulles would be a costly venture for Toll Road users, boasting in cost mitigation of having lobbied successfully in Richmond to "keep tolls down."
