The Mount Vernon Majors football team closed out its regular season on a six-game winning streak thanks to a 31-20 win over Wakefield last Friday night.
The Majors closed out the season with an 8-2 record, good enough for the No. 3 seed in the Division Five Northern region playoffs.
As has been the case most of the season, leading the charge for Mount Vernon was the two-headed rushing monster of senior quarterback Brian Green and senior fullback Kyle Ricks. Ricks finished with 83 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries, while Green had a game-high 129 yards and two touchdowns.
The Majors face Washington-Lee at home in first-round playoff action this Friday.
Youth Association Raises Money
The Fort Hunt Youth Athletic Association held its second annual “Volunteer Celebration” recently and raised more than $5,000 for the organization, which supports area children that participate in sports. The FHYAA board of directors said it is grateful to everyone who came out for the event, and hopes they will continue to support the organization in years to come.
