For one week, people in the Washington area saw the result of combining French and hip-hop. The Urban Corps hip-hop festival showcased the different styles of U.S. and French hip-hop dance and ended on Friday, May 25 at the Artisphere in Rosslyn with a dance battle pitting three dance crews from France against two local crews.

But after long careers in the CIA, they had enough of being cooped up in an office. So after retirement, they began spending their days outdoors pursuing their true passions: hiking, biking, kayaking and touring local attractions.

This summer in McLean will start off with an annual celebration and conclude with a revamped version of one of the community’s signature youth events. The annual Fourth of July fireworks show will take place Wednesday, July 4 at Langley High School, with grounds opening up at 8 p.m.
Great Stories for a Great Cause
Better Said Than Done, a community of professional storytellers based in Northern Virginia, hosted a night of storytelling for a cause. In "Our Bodies, Our Selves," storytellers shared personal tales of tattoos, dealing with Alzheimers, marathon running and other crazy things we do and have done with our bodies. The event was a fundraiser for Friends of Reston.

Rappellers raise $60,000 for Special Olympics.
Rose Pleskow is not one to shy away from a challenge. The 23-year-old Reston resident competed in the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens, Greece, last summer, earned multiple medals in the 2012 Virginia Special Olympic Summer Games and recently competed in an 800-meter race in the waters around the Cayman Islands.

UCM’s Creekside Village Community Day a Success
Some 300 families came together to celebrate the feeling of community and dedication that they enjoy at Creekside Village in Alexandria on May 19. The beautiful spring weather contributed as hundreds of people enjoyed food, music, dancing, games, and special presentations.
