Displaying Artwork of the Year

On June 6 Cooper Middle School had their art show put on by Nadene Wright's Art Extensions class. Each student created and wore a t-shirt inspired by the artist that most inspires them and displayed their top works of the year.

The McLean Symphony performs Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.

In its 2011–2012 Season Finale concert on Saturday, June 2, The McLean Symphony (TMS) premiered a new composition, presented a suite of much-loved arias, and performed Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, 4th movement known as the "Choral," recognized for its powerful "Ode to Joy" theme.

McLean High Wins Four Cappies

Takes home trophy for Best Play.

McLean High took home five awards – including the one for Best Play – at Sunday night’s 13th annual Cappie Awards at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. McLean’s other victories were for Lead Actor and Lead Actress in a Play for its production of "A View from the Bridge," as well as Returning Critic and Critic Team.

Cindy Grisdela, a contemporary art quilter, has an exhibit of her work at the Great Falls Library through June 30. The exhibit, titled "Improvisations in Color," showcases Grisdela’s use of vibrant color and bold graphic design to create unique textile art.

Hayden Arp didn’t always love music. However, in seventh grade he discovered Garage Band on his computer and began exploring with it. Soon, he found a passion for music that exists to this day.

Springfield’s ‘Signature Race’

5k/15k races are among the most popular events at Springfield Days.

This year marked the third annual race at Springfield Days and had by far the largest turnout the event has ever seen. "Several years back we decided that we needed a signature race for the people of Springfield to call their own, and it just keeps getting better and better every year," said Mark Russell of Springfield, the race coordinator.

Mulan Delights Crowds in Northern Virginia Players Production

Northern Virginia Players performed to sellout crowds during a two-week run of Disney’s Mulan Jr. at Burke Community Church. The production featured 64 actors ranging in age from 6 to 18, said Ann Eul, the show’s co-director along with Kate Wittig. "This was an amazing production," Wittig said.
