Nathan F. Holeman

Nathan F. (Red) Holeman died on Dec. 24, 2013. He was born July 16, 1925 to George and Hazel Holeman in Tuxedo Junction on the outskirts of Bartlesville, OK.

Located at the Hollin Hall Shopping Center, Top It Off held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, Sept. 7, hosted by the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce. Michael Gailliot, chairman of the Chamber, led the ceremony.

Kiwanis Conducts Service Leadership Programs Night

The Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club hosted a Service Leadership Programs Night at the Mount Vernon Country Club on Feb 20, which featured presentations from young men, women and students involved in community service and leadership activities at schools in the area. Attending the event were local school administrators, educators, principals, and advisors such as Deborah Tyler, Fairfax Country Public Schools Cluster IV assistant superintendent; Principal Nardos King, Mount Vernon High School; Principal Cliff Hardison, West Potomac High School; Principal Maura Caulfield, Stratford Landing Elementary School; Assistant Principal Kaaren Lowder, South County High School; and Kim Taylor-Wilson, acting coordinator of Student Services at Northern Virginia Community College. Students in attendance were youth leaders in their Kiwanis family of clubs including Circle K International, Key Clubs, Builders Club, and K-Kids.

McLean Antique Show & Sale Returns Nov. 10-11

The 36th Annual McLean Antique Show & Sale will be held at the McLean Community Center from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10 and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11. Admission is $7 for adults and can be used on both days of the show. Proceeds of the show will benefit The Alden’s James C. Macdonald Arts Scholarship Fund. Vienna-based Youth Literacy Initiative Helps Promote Service

Youth Literacy Initiative (YLI), a Vienna-based organization, has teamed with the White House to become a Certifying Organization for the President’s Volunteer Service Award, a national program recognizing Americans who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to volunteer service. Established in 2003, the award was created by President George W. Bush to give presidential recognition to individuals, families and groups who meet requirements for volunteer service, measured by the number of service hours performed over 12 months.

Elevation Burger Expands in Fairfax

Fairfax Adult Softball hits home run during annual bowling tournament.

Supporters of Fairfax Adult Softball, Inc. (FAS) united on Sunday, Jan. 29 for the 12th annual Bowling Tournament to benefit Northern Virginia Special Olympics and Fairfax County Park Authority field improvements. More than 240 participants contributed their time and spirits to raise nearly $13,000 in this year’s tournament.
