Amazon Web Services hosts opening of Herndon Public Sector Headquarters.
Amazon Web Services held a grand opening at their public sector headquarters on Worldgate Drive in Herndon on Monday, Aug. 26. Local dignitaries and guest speakers attended the event. The opening of Amazon Web Services at the Town of Herndon location brings an economic boost to the area and strengthens this region’s status as the Silicon Valley of the East.
Arts Career Fair Held in Fairfax
George Mason hosts internship and career fair.
Students and alumni of George Mason University had the opportunity to attend an internship and career fair with a focus on the entertainment and consulting sectors. This event was held in February at the Fairfax campus at Mason Hall, hosted by the George Mason’s College of Visual and Performing Arts Alumni Chapter and University Career Services. "We have 23 employers attending," said Ryan Braaten, assistant director of development with the College of Visual and Performing Arts at George Mason University.

Life Time Athletic Reston held an official opening ceremony on the evening of Sept. 12. The grand opening ceremony was open to the public, and several local dignitaries attended, including Robert "Bob" Simon, Jr., founder of Reston. Life Time Athletics staff from the Reston store and other locations including Centreville were also on site to attend to the large number of visitors.

Fairfax Chamber Hosts Innovation Awards
Fairfax Chamber staff has active spring season.
Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce (Fairfax Chamber) announced winners for the 1st Annual Greater Washington Innovation Awards, the premier event celebrating the thought leadership, innovation, and creativity of individuals and organizations in select industries in the Greater Washington metro area. Winners were announced live at the April 20th awards gala at the Hyatt Regency.
Mural Dedication Held in Herndon

Associates and friends of the Council for the Arts of Herndon (CAH) assembled to celebrate the dedication of a mural at the Dominion Animal Hospital at 795 Station Street in Herndon. The mural, painted by former Herndon High School art teacher Keith Naquin, is a 95-foot long piece of art, and was commissioned by the CAH. Almost 100 persons attended the outdoor dedication ceremony on Sunday, Aug. 17.

On Nov. 9, members of the United States Navy Band Country Current preformed before an audience at Herndon United Methodist Congregation. “It was a nice concert, very well attended,” Burke resident Sarah Hooke said. Hooke has been the church organist for 19 years.
Handcrafted Jewelry Returns To McLean
McLean Community Center hosts jewelry showcase.
On Saturday, Feb. 1, approximately 40 local artists and jewelers from the Virginia and Washington, D.C. metro area came to sell their work at the McLean Community Center. "All the items at the showcase are handmade," said Sam Roberts, Director of Special Events for McLean Community Center (MCC).

At historic Colvin Run Mill Park Santa Claus made a visit to the miller’s office from 3 to 6 p.m. Despite damp, overcast weather on Saturday, spirits stayed bright as visitors came by to see Santa and hear carolers from the Virginia 49th Infantry, participate in crafts, or join in a marshmallow roasting.
