After recent struggles, Vikings score 75 in win against Springbrook.

Whitman girls’ basketball coach Pete Kenah sat at a desk and opened the team’s scorebook after a Feb. 3 contest against Springbrook. Two days earlier, the Vikings shot 3 for 28 in the first half against Richard Montgomery en route to a 54-40 loss. Forty-eight hours later, Whitman’s offensive effort against the talented Blue Devils left the scorebook littered with ink.

To the Editor: We would like to invite your readership to the Remembrance Cabaret for Reema to be held this year on Saturday, May 26 at Westfield High School, 4700 Stonecroft Boulevard in Chantilly. Doors will open at 6 p.m. for the Silent Auction and Bake Sale; the program will begin at 7 p.m. Although the event is free, donations are welcome and will benefit the Reema J. Samaha Memorial Scholarships and Angel Fund.

Celebrating the Change of Season

Children can welcome the change of season at MCC's Harvest Happenings.

Young children ages 3-8 can experience the fun and excitement of the changing of the seasons as they participate in a variety of activities at the McLean Community Center’s Harvest Happenings. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the center, located at 1234 Ingleside Ave. General admission is $5 at the door; admission is free for children up to 36 months old.

Oakton Women’s Club Supports Shepherd’s Center of Oakton-Vienna

Each year the Oakton Women’s Club hosts their fashion show in Oakton to raise money to support the local community. The Shepherd’s Center of Oakton-Vienna (SCOV) was the recipient of the net proceeds for the 2013 fashion show and received a generous $1,000 donation. Pictured (from left) Jayne Young, office administrator of SCOV, and Linda Byrne, president of the Board Oakton Women’s Club. Centered is a photo of Jeanne Robertson, the headliner for SCOV’s annual fundraiser. Their event is already sold out with 1,000 attendees expected at the Oct. 27 event in Vienna. Founded in 1997, SCOV is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing opportunities for adults (50-plus) to seek rewarding lives and to live independently in their homes for as long as possible.
