Reston Interfaith Named as a 2012 Helios Apollo Awards Finalist

Reston Interfaith, a nonprofit dedicated to providing affordable housing and supportive social services to individuals and families in need, has been named a finalist for the 2012 Helios Apollo Awards, the premier awards program for recognizing employers in the Washington metropolitan region that invest in employee development initiatives that make an impact. Reston Interfaith is one of six finalists in the Tria award category, which represents companies with 101-175 employees.

Local Artist to Exhibit Beach Series At Katie’s Coffee House

Local artist Jane Rader will be exhibiting her “Beach Series” photographs at Katie’s Coffee House at 760 Walker Road in Great Falls during the month of July. The digital images on canvas feature beach scenes in a contemporary, impressionistic style. As a painter and graphic designer, Rader’s soft focus style of photography allows the artist to paint with her camera. Her beach series was photographed in 2010 along the coast of Virginia.

Herndon Parks and Recreation Wins Awards for Marketing

Approximately 450 delegates from Virginia gathered in early September for the 59th annual conference of the Virginia Recreation and Park Society, which was held in Williamsburg. The conference is a learning exchange and provides an opportunity for recreation and park professionals to collaborate and ultimately improve the delivery of parks and recreation services. A highlight of each conference is a presentation of awards. This year Herndon Parks and Recreation had two items, which were selected in the 25,000 and less population category:

Brief: Dance Center Hosts Family Event

Metropolitan Fine Arts Center of Alexandria is hosting their 13th annual family open house on Sunday, Sept. 30 from 1-4 p.m., featuring free dance and fitness classes for all ages, seminars and workshops, arts and crafts vendors, performances, a meet and greet with center staff, as well as refreshments.
