The inaugural Twilight Rock ‘n’ Run drew a nice-sized crowd to South County High School on Sept. 13, a cool Saturday night. The 5K race was sponsored by the South County Band Boosters to raise money for the band and for Turf SoCo, an initiative to raise money for new football field turf.

Holocaust Survivor to Speak at Great Falls Library Holocaust survivor Henry Greenbaum will talk about his experience as a Polish Jew who was liberated from Auschwitz concentration camp and eventually made his way to the United States. His presentation -- Out of the Darkness, Into the Light: Surviving the Holocaust – will be held on Wednesday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the Great Falls Library, 9830 Georgetown Pike, Great Falls. McLean Project for the Arts New Exhibitions Opening January 12
Local artists; showcase construction work, sculptures and monoprints
Baltimore artist Mary Walker will exhibit wall-hung constructions that combine imagery and concepts from natural science, mechanics and the landscape. Found objects such as cable, screws, nuts and bolts are combined with painting, referring to the process of building and constructing.

Shepherd’s Center of Oakton-Vienna Volunteer Receives National Leadership Award

Julius Hankin, with the Shepherd’s Center of Oakton-Vienna was chosen as the recipient of the 2016 Donald Owen Smith National Volunteer Leadership Award. The Donald Owen Smith National Volunteer Leadership Award recognizes top volunteers with the Shepherd’s Centers of America network for their service in helping older adults live safely and independently in their own homes. This is the only national volunteer award recognizing the service of seniors for seniors.
