Herndon High Cadets Win Spicer Cup, Set League Record
After four months of intense competition, Herndon High School’s Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps' (NJROTC) Rifle Team has won the coveted Spicer Cup.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration in McLean Features Civil Rights Leader Andrew Young
In observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, the Alden at the McLean Community Center is presenting Ambassador Andrew Young: “A Continuing Legacy,” at 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17. Young, whose efforts have served and shaped the country for more than 50 years, will share personal memories of Dr. King and his years in the Civil Rights movement. Tickets are $20, $10 for MCC district residents. The Alden is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue, inside the McLean Community Center.

Herndon High Cadets Head to National Championship
Herndon High’s Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) cadets did not let a cold and dreary day stand in the way of their pursuit of the February 2014 Orienteering National Championship. As one of only two corps with five teams to have completed their courses successfully, the Herndon NJROTC secured an overall 4th place finish in the highly competitive Area Five Orienteering Championship.

HOV Ramp from I-66 East to I-495 North Closing
After morning rush hour on or about Friday, Oct. 12, the left-lane HOV (high occupancy vehicle) ramp from eastbound I-66 to northbound I-495 will close to traffic until the 495 Express Lanes open to traffic later this year and the ramp reopens as a new, dedicated 495 Express Lanes ramp. During the closure, carpools will use the ramp from the right lane of I-66 East to I-495 North (Capital Beltway’s Inner Loop).
A Musical Crossroads at Signature Theatre

Robin Thompson’s daughter Ashley Renee was a sophomore at Lake Braddock Secondary School when she died in a car crash on June 10, 2003. She had borrowed a friend’s car to drive home from school and slammed into a tree after losing control of the vehicle.
Teen Trafficking Awareness Event in Springfield
