Workhouse Theatre Kicks Off Inaugural Season
The Lorton Arts Foundation has announced the inaugural season of its own Workhouse Theatre. Based in the Workhouse Arts Center’s newly renovated building W-3, it is one of only three professional theater companies in Northern Virginia. Workhouse Theatre will launch its season with the play "ART" from Jan. 20-Feb 26, 2012.

Virginia Irene Sullivan Bruch (“Ginny”) was born May 26, 1921 in Hickman, Ky. A teacher and published poet, genealogist, and civic leader in Alexandria, she began a career in the Civil Service in 1948, retiring in 1980 from the Pentagon Army Library, where she was a section chief.

The Pet Elf Celebrates 15 Years in Business
The Pet Elf is now officially in its 15th year of caring for Reston and Herndon’s pets. Kim Waite-Williams is the owner of The Pet Elf, one of Pet Sitters International’s nearly 7,000 members. Sept. 8, they’ll be marking the occasion with an outdoor picnic to honor their many clients and their pets at North Hills Pavilion, N. Village Road at Hollow Timber Court, Reston, from noon to 4 p.m.

The Grammys 2013 included a “dress code” which propelled most attendees to bring their most glamorous fashions to the limelight. Twenty-five models with Down syndrome rocked the runway at the Global Down Syndrome Foundation “Be Beautiful, Be Yourself” Gala on Wednesday, May 8, at the Ritz Carlton in D.C. The fashion show and fundraiser is designed to raise awareness about Down syndrome, one of the most frequent chromosomal conditions affecting an estimated 400,000 Americans.
