With forty-four days until the November 3 Town of Herndon elections for Mayor and Members of Town Council, councilmember candidate and incumbent Cesar A. del Aguila and candidate Naila Alam walked door-to-door, the weekend of Sept. 1.
Official Ribbon Cutting Held for Central Green Park in Lorton
Central Green Park, part of Laurel Hill Park in Lorton, officially opened with a commemorating ribbon cutting ceremony on June 25; the area was previously opened for public use in September 2020 (see “Springfield Connection”, October 14, 2020, page 2).

Metropolitan Youth Theatre students of the Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) of Alexandria and Lorton will present its student-directed and produced performance of Jason Robert Brown’s “Songs for a New World” on Friday, Nov. 6 at 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. at the W-3 Theatre at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton.
Yorktown Girls’ Soccer Falls in Region Semifinals
The Yorktown girls’ soccer team’s 2012 season came to an end on May 30 with a 4-2 loss to Stone Bridge in the Northern Region semifinals.
‘Sunrise…Sunset’ by Dorothy Donahey on Exhibit at Reston Art Gallery & Studios
Reston Art Gallery & Studios (RAGS) presents an exhibit of paintings by Dorothy Donahey in her show “Sunrise…Sunset” on display from Sept. 2 through Oct. 6. All are welcome to meet the artist at a reception on Sunday, Sept. 18 from 2 until 4 p.m. In this show, Donahey’s paintings are inspired by dawn and evening skies, and from musicals. “I’ll let the viewers decide which came first in my muse – the color of the sky, or the songs,” says Donahey.

Barbecue, blues music, bourbon and beer – it’s all part of the City of Fairfax’s annual Derby-Q festival. This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, May 7, from 2-7 p.m. in Old Town Square, at the corner of University Drive and North Street in downtown Fairfax.
