Roessler Named County Police Chief
New police chief vows focus on diversity.
Edwin C. Roessler, named Fairfax County's police chief at Tuesday's Board of Supervisor's meeting, promised to launch a Diversity Council in an effort to recruit, promote and respond to Fairfax County's increasingly diverse community.
Summer Fun Camps Continue in Herndon
The Summer Fun Camps are held outdoors at Bready Park and indoors at the Herndon Community Center.
At the end of June, the Herndon Summer Fun Camps began operations at Herndon Community Center, with Harriet Van De Riet and a team of trained counselors directing. “All of our counselors have enrolled in college,” said Van De Riet.

In hopes of encouraging people to adopt cats and kittens, the Fairfax County Animal Shelter has designated July as “Extravacatza.” Adoptive families will receive half-off adoption fees, plus free spay and neuter, on cats and kittens. Senior cat adopters will receive gift bags.

Jewish Film Festival Opens on April 18

The Northern Virginia Jewish Film Festival (NVJFF) will celebrate its 13th year of Culture, Community and Chutzpah as it screens 13 films from April 18-28. Presented by the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia and Angelika Film Center & Café at Mosaic, the festival committee previewed more than 70 Jewish-themed or Israeli-made films to comprise this year’s selections.

County will hold public meeting for possible garden plots.
Barbara Welsh wants to see a community garden in Herndon. The Herndon Environmental Network (HEN) vice president has been working for the past two years to allow community garden plots in town. County Park Authority will hold a meeting on Dec. 1 to find out if the rest of the community does, too.
