Historic Vienna, Inc. is sponsoring a lecture by USAF veteran, retired diplomat and author Robert F. Dorr. On Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7:30 in the Council Chamber of Vienna’s Town Hall, Dorr will discuss his latest book, “Mission To Tokyo,” the story of the American airmen, ground crews and escorts who flew long-range bombing missions during the final months of World War II. Dorr’s presentation is open to the public and refreshments will be served.

The Washington Theatre community has joined forces to present the inaugural Summer Hummer, a bawdy, vaudeville-type variety show to benefit Taking Care of Our Own, a new initiative assisting D.C.-area theatre professionals and artists in personal emergency situations. Monday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. The show is for audiences 18 years and older.

Vienna Among Top-earning Towns, Best for Families

In addition to being one of the top three “Best Places to Live,” Money Magazine has named Vienna on its list of “Top-Earning Towns.” Vienna is ranked 24 in a list of 25 towns across the country that have above national average household income and home prices. Vienna is joined on the list by Falls Church, at number 18 on the “Top-Earning Town” list.

Classical Ballet Theatre Hosts Local Preschools

On Thursday, April 18, Classical Ballet Theatre (CBT) dancers enjoyed sharing their love of the performing arts with preschool students from Herndon Elementary Head Start, Montessori Country Day School, Reston Children's Center and St. Timothy's Episcopal Church. As part of their free outreach program, CBT performed Act I of their popular Cinderella production, which is packed with choreography, costumes, and good-natured humor. The students clapped for big leaps and twirls, laughed with stepsisters “Haughty” and “Spiteful,” and delighted in Cinderella's magical transformation into a princess dressed in a shimmering ball gown. Afterwards, enthusiastic audience members asked many questions and visited with cast members.

Named the “Best Flamenco Guitarist” by America’s Guitar magazine for five consecutive years, Paco Peña brings his troupe of flamenco singers, musicians and dancers to George Mason University’s Center for the Arts in Fairfax on Friday, Feb. 1, 2013 at 8 p.m. for a tour through the history of flamenco.
