Potomac: Police Rescue Injured American Bald Eagle
An injured American bald eagle was recovered in the area of River Road and Riverwood Drive on March 3 at approximately 8:45 a.m. According to Montgomery County Police, Animals Services Division Officer Jennifer Gill responded to the area and was met with a resident who had observed the eagle walk into the woods.

This past Saturday, Langley High School students Jack Lichtenstein and Morgan Poirier hosted the second annual Bands for Bikes benefit at the Old Firehouse Teen Center’s Annual Block Party from 4-8 p.m.

Fan Quest for Special Olympics
Oakton High Hosts McLean High in basketball game and other fun activities.
Oakton High School's gym was filled to capacity with a standing-room only crowd of 700 for Fan Quest 2015 last Saturday, Feb. 7, when Oakton challenged McLean to a game of Special Olympics basketball plus other exciting activities. In addition to the Special Olympics Virginia basketball game where McLean beat Oakton, 42-24, the event, sponsored by Booz-Allen Hamilton and Grant Thornton, gave athletes the chance to shoot layups, free throws, and three-pointers in the Papa John's Pizza Shoot Out to win free pizza coupons.
Inaugural Celebration of Gospel Event Held in Burke
Last Wednesday, Feb. 11, the Lake Braddock Secondary School (LBSS) welcomed the Howard Gospel Choir of Howard University (HGC) to headline its first musical Celebration of Gospel. The concert was sponsored by the Minority Parents for Excellence in Education (MPEE), a parent-led organization that has been active at LBSS for almost 30 years.

The 2015 Annual Joe Cassella 5K Run/Walk took place on Sunday, May 17, in Great Falls. More than three hundred runners from the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area attended the race, which began with a Kids Fun Run at 8:30 a.m., followed by a 5K Run/Walk at 8:45 a.m.
Author Inspires Potomac Students To Write
Laura Krauss Melmed describes journey from idea to publication.
Students at Beverly Farms Elementary School learned about the writing process and how a book gets published from children’s book author Laura Krauss Melmed on Nov. 5 and 6. Melmed, who came to the school to read from her first picture book called “The Rainbabies,” is an award-winning author of 20 picture books including lyrical bedtime stories, original tales of magic, holiday books, and nonfiction books about cities and states.

Dalya Luttwak Exhibits at GRACE

Since 2007, artist Dalya Luttwak has been working on a series of sculptures depicting the root systems of various plants. Some of these sculptures are on display at Reston GRACE located on the corner of Market St. and St. Francis in the Reston Town Center.

Fairfax County Students Receive DAR Awards
Providence Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) has announced the 2014 recipients of two DAR awards. The DAR Youth Citizenship Medal is presented to fifth and sixth grade students who fulfill the qualities of honor, service, courage, leadership, and patriotism. The Outstanding Work in American History Medal is presented to students in any grade for excellence in American history studies.
