College Day At Lees Corner
Friday April 13 was "College Day" in the Chantilly Pyramid and all faculty and staff were encouraged to wear a shirt from their alma mater and to engage their students in discussions about college and careers. The effort was part of a "Crayon to College" initiative, acknowledging research that suggests that the earlier students start thinking about possible careers, the better they plan their educational paths. Helping Anti-Hunger Groups
Valon Salon in Centreville took part in hosting a bake sale on Saturday, April 28 through the Great American Bake Sale and raised over $400 to support the Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry Campaign. No Kid Hungry is a national effort to end childhood hunger in America by 2015. The money raised by Valon Salon will help national anti-hunger organizations cover the costs to serve meals to children in need where even $1 can help connect a child to 10 meals.

Madison Softball Win Streak Ends With Loss to Stone Bridge
Warhawks, in earlier week game, edge Statesmen.
The Madison Warhawks lost a 13-2 decision to Stone Bridge in a Liberty District girls’ softball game with first place on the line last Friday night, April 27. The Warhawks, with the setback, saw their eight-game win streak snapped. Madison jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, scoring two runs in the first inning. But after that, the Bulldogs cruised to the five-inning victory.
