What do an Italian wedding, a musical about Hitler, and a tour bus full of young actors and actresses have to do with one another? They were all part of the fun trip Thespian Troupe 1899 made to New York City in February. The Troupe saw "The Producers" and "Tony & Tina's Wedding" all in one day, and still managed to fit in some sightseeing.
After lunch at the Hard Rock café, the Thespians set off to see "The Producers," the smash hit comedy-musical. Troupe 1899 member Gary Beach won the 2001 Tony for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his hilarious portrayal of the cross-dressing director, Robert deBris. Following the show, Beach met and spoke with the Thespians about show biz and memories from when he attended Groveton High School, which is now West Potomac.
The next show Troupe 1899 saw, or rather participated in, was "Tony & Tina's Wedding." The premise behind this show is that the audience attends the not-so-traditional Italian wedding as guests, and interacts with the family members. This made for lots of laughs, especially on the dance floor.
