The Dranesville District of Fairfax County includes McLean, Great Falls, Herndon and parts of Falls Church and Vienna, representing a population of approximately 110,100 and over 39,000 households within 65 square miles. Each neighborhood has its own distinctive profile and charm, making our region one of the most dynamic places to live in Northern Virginia.
We have one of the finest public school systems in the nation. In the June ’03 edition of Newsweek Magazine, Fairfax County Public Schools was the only large school district in the country to have every eligible high school on the list of “Best High Schools in America,” with six ranking in the top 100. Our students consistently score above-average on national standardized tests and gain admission to the finest colleges and universities. We also have an excellent public library system and are fortunate to have state-of-the-art equipment, which is an indispensable tool for pleasure and academic enrichment for young and old alike.
The Dranesville District offers a myriad of activities for the outdoors enthusiast. Approximately 500+ acres of public open space and 64 parks are in our district, including Great Falls Park, Claude Moore Colonial Farm, Scotts Run Nature Preserve, Turner Farm, and Riverbend Park, McLean Central Park, Clemyjontri Park as well as Pimmit Run and Sugarland Run Stream Valley Parks, offer citizens a wealth of enjoyable opportunities. Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, the only National Park in the country dedicated to the performing arts is also in the Dranesville District. We have an extensive network of trails, including the historic W & OD Trail built on the roadbed of the former Washington & Old Dominion Railroad, which provides 45 miles of paved trail for walking, running, bicycling and skating and 32 miles of adjacent gravel trail for horseback riding through the urban heartland and countryside of Northern Virginia. We have numerous sports organizations for children, youth, and adults, which add to the array of available activities.
Brochures and information about the many organizations and civic and cultural groups can be found at the McLean Visitors Center, located at 1437 Balls Hill Road. I am honored to represent you on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. Please feel free to contact my office if you have any questions about Fairfax County or the services we offer. Due, in large measure, to the many citizens who give generously of their time and talent, the Dranesville District is a truly wonderful place to live, work and raise a family. We look forward to your active involvement.
Sincerely,
Joan M. DuBois
Supervisor, Dranesville District
