Mount Vernon — More than 45 families attended the second organizing event for Opportunity Neighborhood: Mt. Vernon on the evening of Feb. 28 at Riverside Elementary School. Opportunity Neighborhood combines government, school, community, business, faith, and nonprofit leaders in a coordinated focus to engage children and parents. The event was hosted by Fairfax County Government, Fairfax County Public School, and United Community Ministries. Participating organizations included Department of Neighborhood and Community Services, Department of Health, Inova Health System, Office for Women and Domestic and Sexual Violence, Progreso Literacy and Citizenship Center, Saved by Grace Cancer Foundation, School Readiness Services, and Woodlawn Little League.
