Brief: Wetland Restoration Plan for Park
Fairfax County Park Authority staff members and wetlands design professionals from Wetlands Studies and Solutions, Inc. will present a wetlands restoration plan for Huntley Meadows Park, a 50-plus acre freshwater wetland on Thursday, Nov. 29, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the park Visitor’s Center located at 3701 Lockheed Blvd. in Alexandria.

Still recovering from a double mastectomy in 1995, Lawson founded the city's annual Walk to Fight Breast Cancer, which celebrated its 17th anniversary Oct. 20 and raised more than $90,000 to fund mammograms and other diagnostic screenings for Alexandria women who are not adequately insured to obtain medical care.

On July 14, 2012, U.S. Marine Troops from the 1st Maintenance Battalion flew an American flag over Camp Leatherneck in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan in honor of Caffe Amouri. Caffe Amouri had sent coffee and a grinder to the troops as their way of saying thanks and to send, as owner Michael Amouri stated, "just a little bit of home to our boys and girls who are in harms way and, I would imagine, could certainly use something…even something small like a good cup of coffee."

Week in Reston
Police are investigating the death of a Reston-area woman as a homicide. Officers were called to a home in the 11300 block of Geddys Court around 9:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16, for the report of a shot person. They located an adult female with an apparent gunshot wound inside the home. She was transported to Reston Hospital Center and succumbed to her injuries.
County Board Names RCC Board Members
On Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the request of Supervisor Catherine M. Hudgins (D-Hunter Mill), the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors appointed three Reston residents to the nine-member Reston Community Center Board of Governors: returning Board member William G. Bouie, and new Board members Lisa Ehrhardt and Gerald Zavala.
