Nine high school students were recognized and awarded 2012 Education Partnership Scholarships at a May 31 reception by the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce. The T.C. Williams High School baseball program played host to the inaugural Titans Alumni Baseball Game June 2 when a total of 36 players reunited with old friends and played a seven-inning game before a sellout crowd at Eugene Simpson Field in Alexandria.

Mayor Bill Euille’s plan for the waterfront is a delight if you are developer, or an investor seeking new business on the banks of the Potomac River a la National Harbor. But, to call this waterfront plan eco-friendly, as the Mayor does in a recent opinion piece, is to pervert the meaning of the word 'ecological,' or 'green.'

Brian Heintz, a teacher at West Springfield High, recently won the Virginia State History teacher of the year award. Heintz has taught history and social studies in the Fairfax County Public School system for nine years, at both Westfield and West Springfield
Springfield’s ‘Signature Race’
5k/15k races are among the most popular events at Springfield Days.
This year marked the third annual race at Springfield Days and had by far the largest turnout the event has ever seen. "Several years back we decided that we needed a signature race for the people of Springfield to call their own, and it just keeps getting better and better every year," said Mark Russell of Springfield, the race coordinator.

The Republican Women of Clifton (RWC) will feature Dr. Ileana Johnson speaking about and signing her recently published book Freedom on Life Support at its June 18 meeting. Fridy Named Volunteer of the Year

Each year the Board of Directors for Celebrate Fairfax, Inc. honor one outstanding volunteer worker with the Volunteer of the Year Award. This year’s recipient, Scott Fridy (Chantilly), has been volunteering in Fairfax County for nearly 20 years and he helps coordinate the reveled "Children's Avenue" sponsored by ExxonMobil.
FACETS’ Amanda Andere Named Northern Virginian of the Year by Northern Virginia Magazine
Leadership around preventing and ending homelessness cited.
Amanda Andere, the executive director of FACETS, a nonprofit that opens doors by helping parents, their children, and individuals who suffer the effects of poverty in Fairfax County, was selected by Northern Virginia Magazine as a 2012 Northern Virginian of the Year for her outstanding leadership that is helping FACETS grow its efforts to end homelessness as well as her community commitment.

Graduating senior Nathaniel "Nate" Banks of Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax received $2,500 on May 29 as the 2012 recipient of The Lunsford/Behrend Scholarship.
