Flint Hill School’s Coach Attends White House Celebration of Title IX
Jody Patrick, Flint Hill School’s head varsity girls’ basketball coach and P.E. teacher, was invited to attend a special function at the White House on Wednesday afternoon, June 20, to mark the 40th anniversary of Title IX, the landmark statute that ensures equity between boys and girls for all educational programs that receive federal funding.
Oakton Graduates Urged to Question

Sean Ryan, son of Linda and Michael Ryan and Thomas Zekowski, son of Kathleen and David Zekowski, were the winners of the Second Annual Dunn Loring Woods Civic Association (DLWCA) Scholarship.

Scholarship Promotes Knowledge of History, Government
With a seven minute speech about the importance of history and knowledge of government, U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf (R-10) presented the National Heritage Scholarship at Oakton High School in May to kick-off the school’s annual award night.
Retzer Takes Reins at South Lakes
Kim Retzer, South Lakes Class of 1989, named principal.
As a member of South Lakes High School’s Class of 1989 Kim Retzer (nee Brophy) planned on going to law school, majoring in Government and Politics at George Mason. But she began substitute teaching during college, leading to a long term substitute position while a teacher was on maternity leave.
Reston Rotary Awards Annual Scholarship
The Rotary Club of Reston awarded a scholarship to Julie Linovitz in the amount of $3,000 at a regular meeting of the club at the Hidden Creek Country Club on May 30.
Commonwealth’s Graduates
The Class of 2012 graduated from Commonwealth Academy at the George Washington Masonic Memorial on Friday, June 8.
Outstanding Radford Student
Deanna Marie Doyle of Alexandria was named the 2012 Outstanding Graduating Student from the Department of Art in the College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) at Radford University.
