Take one overbearing mother, add a cup of devilishly handsome men, two teaspoons of pretty-and witty-girls, and put in just a pinch of romance, deception, and unceasing humor and charm: sounds like the perfect recipe for a dramatic soap opera. But this is no daytime television show: this is Jane Austen! Herndon High School took Austen’s classic novel and placed it up on the stage in their performance of "Pride and Prejudice."
Herndon High Hosts Youth Drinking Forum
Panel discussion, video highlight latest trends in teenage drinking.
Herndon High School hosted "The Perils of the College Drinking Culture" Tuesday, April 24, a forum discussing the consequences of alcohol use with students and parents in the community. The event, hosted by the Unified Prevention Coalition of Fairfax County, featured facts about the social, legal and physical consequences of alcohol use.

Madison High Places Third at State Scholastic Championships
On the weekend of March 17 and 18, the Madison Chess team played six rounds of outstanding chess at Tysons Corner and took home the 3rd place trophy. Individual trophy winners included Paul Psarakis for 15th place, John Nothaft –best under 1200 rated-player, and Ben Ostapovicz–best under 1000, Raphael Ordonez–Best Unrated.
Flint Hill Students Offer Support in ‘Relay For Life’ Event
Team comes in first place for fundraising efforts.
Thirty-one Flint Hill School (FHS) students, guided by Biology teacher Cyndi Hoffman and supported by four faculty members and an FHS parent, raised $7,745 as part of George Mason University’s overnight "Relay for Life" event on Saturday, April 21, in support of the American Cancer Society. Their efforts earned them first place in fundraising for the program.
Colvin Run To Hold Fun Run
Colvin Run Elementary School will be holding its Sixth Annual Fun Run on Saturday, May 5, from 8:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. It is being billed as "a super event that provides exercise to participants and financial support to charitable organizations."
National Charity League Senior Recognition Reception
On Sunday, April 15 National Charity League, Inc.’s, Cherry Blossom Chapter, recognized nine graduating seniors. The dessert reception took place at Westwood Country Club in Vienna. The graduating seniors successfully completed their years in National Charity League, Inc.

Thirty-three students were honored from schools in the Tysons Corner and Vienna area who came to the ViennaTysons Regional Chamber of Commerce program flanked by family and friends.
Langley High Orchestra Visits Nashville
The Langley High School Orchestra went to Nashville, Tenn. where they recorded in the RCA studio, participated in an orchestra clinic at Vanderbilt University, attended a performance at the Grand Ole Opry, and stayed in the renowned Gaylord Opryland Resort.

When a presentation draws double the audience expected, someone has hit a hot spot. On Tuesday, April 24 at McLean High School, local nutritionist Victoria Wood pulled in an audience of over 150 with her talk, "The Power of Your Plate."
McLean High Bands Win at National Competition in Boston
McLean High School’s Symphonic, Concert and Jazz Bands all brought home first place trophies from a national band competition in Boston last weekend. In addition the school’s Percussion Ensemble received the highest "Superior Gold" rating by judges and five musicians received an "Individual Soloist Award." McLean’s bands traveled to Boston to compete in the WorldStrides Heritage Festival which pitted the music program against top programs in high schools from the East Coast to California and Alaska.

Featuring a cast and crew of 90, Liberty Middle School presents the classic, Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, “State Fair.” Show times are Thursday-Friday-Saturday, May 3, 4 and 5, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door.
On Their Way to Iowa
Stratford Landing Elementary School’s 5th grade Odyssey of the Mind team, coached by Terri Bell, has qualified to go to the World Finals in Ames, Iowa. Odyssey of the Mind is a creative problem-solving competition for students ages Kindergarten through college. The team worked on their problem in the category of Weird Science. They came in first in their division at the regional competition, which was held at West Potomac High School, and also came in first at the state finals in Newport News on April 14. The team was also the only team, out of 108 competing at the state level, that was given the Ranatra Fusca award, which is presented to a team that demonstrates exceptional creativity at the competition.
