The Herndon Centennial Golf Course hosted a clinic to benefit Cindy’s Legacy, a local charity dedicated to supporting families of those diagnosed with cancer, which raised more than $1,000 Friday, Aug. 3.

Charity’s scholarship awards go to three youths.

With a speech about the importance of history and knowledge of government, U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf (R-10) presented the first annual National Heritage Scholarship at Oakton High School in May to kick-off the school’s annual award night The Scholarship awards $5,000 each to seniors at three Northern Virginia schools.

Residents feted for saving woman from burning home.

When a wheelchair-bound woman was rescued recently from her burning Centreville townhouse, an off-duty firefighter and a bevy of civilians came to her rescue. For their bravery, they were honored by the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department with lifesaving awards.

Between that and the coming federally-funded widening through Fort Belvoir, I often get queries from constituents who want to know why Route 1 is being improved there, but not between Woodlawn and the Beltway. There are two reasons — planning and money.
