For local children’s book writer Ann Bonwill, the passion for reading and writing began as a child growing up in Maryland. Her mother, a children’s librarian, let Bonwill read books in the corner of her library while she prepared her lessons in the evenings and on weekends.

Pocket Change

After saving pocket change for 20 years, Northwest Federal Credit Union member George Shoemaker brought his coin collection - pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters totaling $7,124 - to the Herndon-based credit union for deposit. It was the largest, single deposit of coins ever counted at Northwest Federal, and it took more than two hours to complete.

SCC Honors Partners

Coalition recognizes volunteers, officials for efforts over past school year.

The Safe Community Coalition honored dozens of individuals and organizations at their annual members meeting Tuesday, June 5 at the McLean Community Center. The primarily volunteer-run organization coordinates various activities and events designed to raise awareness of issues faced by youths, mostly in the Langley and McLean High School pyramids.
