Sales associates and staff from Long & Foster Real Estate Inc., Springfield office, located at 7202 Old Keene Mill Road in Springfield, will spend the 15th annual companywide Community Service Day on June 6 working to make major home improvements to the residence of an area woman who lives alone and is blind.

Supporting Fairfax Spotlight on the Arts
Cardinal Bank Community Fund has awarded a $5,000 grant to Fairfax Spotlight on the Arts. Founded in 1985 as a cooperative effort by the City of Fairfax and George Mason University, Spotlight aims to enhance the community’s awareness of the many arts and cultural opportunities offered in Fairfax and the surrounding area.
Fairfax Honors the Fallen

On Monday, May 28, dozens gathered on the lawn of the old Fairfax courthouse for a ceremony honoring those who have died in battle. The American Legion Post 177 and VFW Post 8469 partnered for the service.
Running for Cure
Michelle Wilds of Fairfax will run in the Race for Cure in memory of her mother Elizabeth.
On her 21st birthday, Michelle Wilds lost her mother. A Fairfax resident and George Mason business student, Michelle had watched her mother, Elizabeth, combat aggressive inflammatory cancer since her diagnosis in 2008.
Fairfax Resident Earns Girl Scout Gold Award
Eleni Antzoulatos of Troop 5462 in Fairfax, was one of 221 Girl Scouts from the Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital (GSCNC) recently recognized for earning the highest award in Girl Scouting. The annual ceremony, called "In Your Honor" was held at Trinity Washington University and celebrated the accomplishments of young women in the region that reached this extraordinary summit.
City of Fairfax Band presents 'Springtime Pops'

Fairfax County and the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) recognized their business and community partners for continued contributions to their community at the Celebrate Partnerships awards ceremonies held on May 21 at the Mason Inn and Conference Center.
Local Teacher Honored
Melanie Davis, a Jr. Kindergarten teacher at Kiddie Country Developmental Learning Center, was chosen by Fairfax County Preschool Division of Early Childhood Education as one of five community preschool teachers to be honored at the First Annual Exemplary Inclusive Practices Community Preschool Teachers Awards ceremony on May 17.
Col. Lawrence Paul Monahan, Jr., USA (Ret.), 88, a Long-time Reston Resident, Dies
Col. Lawrence Paul Monahan, Jr., USA (Ret.) passed away on May 22, 2012 at 88 with his loving wife, Patricia Monahan, and family members by his side at Loudoun Hospital. Col. Monahan, "Paul," was a devoted father to Dr. David Monahan and wife Kathy; Gail Monahan and husband David; Tom Monahan; Tanya Stinson and husband Mike; Robin George and husband Chip; and Scott Trescott. An adoring grandfather to Alex, Julia, Zoe, Cassidy, Jeremy, Anna, Peter and Colin.

Aldrin ES, Worldgate LLC Announce Partnership
Aldrin Elementary School has announced a new business partnership with Worldgate LLC. The partnership was officially announced as part of a planned student assembly. Worldgate LLC president, Katelyn Montgomery, and vice president Scott Montgomery are also Aldrin parents. Worldgate is a consulting company with offices in Reston, Philadelphia and New York. They are at work on several educational projects.
