Riverbend Park Hosts Virginia Indian Festival
At Riverbend Park in Great Falls thousands of visitors stopped by to attend the annual Virginia Indian Festival. Mixing with the crowds and greeting visitors was Park Manager Marty Smith. “I have been working at Riverbend Park for 20 years, and manager for 10 years,” said Smith. It was Smith who organized and developed the concept of an educational event about the indigenous people of Northern Virginia for the general public.

Arrest Made in Child Pornography Case Detectives detained and arrested Juan Carlos Moza Moreno, 20, of 2216 Pimmit Run Lane Thursday, June 27. He was charged with possession of child pornography and use of communications systems to facilitate certain offenses involving children. The charges came following an investigation where a 16-year-old boy from McLean was allegedly provided a cell phone and coerced to transmit sexually explicit images of himself to Moza Moreno.

On Friday, Sept. 7 at 10:45 a.m. a 40-year-old woman reported a burglary and attempted sexual assault. The victim entered her apartment in the 8000 block of Chanute Place and encountered an unknown man. The suspect attempted to sexually assault her. She fought him until he stopped and fled the apartment.

For many cast members in the Herndon High School Theatre Department, the musical "Brigadoon" wasn’t a familiar title to them. The story of two New Yorkers who stumble upon a mystical disappearing Scottish village features one of the young men, Tommy, who falls in love with one of the town’s residents, only to be confronted by the fact that the town only appears once every hundred years.

Jail Tours Provide Wake-Up Call for At-Risk Teens
The Sheriff’s Office runs the Teen Awareness Program (TAP).
“At-risk kids are able to see and hear first-hand the effects of making a right decision versus a wrong decision,” says Deputy Sheriff Lieutenant Steve Elbert, about the tours and presentations he leads at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. The Sheriff’s Office initiated the Teen Awareness Program (TAP) a year ago, in partnership with the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, to become part of the court’s diversion program for first-time, non-violent juvenile offenders.
