As summer vacation in Fairfax County winds down, the hallways and classrooms at South County High school are already buzzing. Beginning Aug. 18, roughly 1,200 new and returning teachers — as well as those new to the school system — took part in a week-long induction program called “Great Beginnings: The Next Generation.”

Covanta spokesperson James Regan said one Fairfax County Fire engine remained at the Covanta Fairfax Waste to Energy Facility on Furnace Road in Lorton to assist with the process of removing waste from the refuse pit and tipping floor, to ensure all the hot spots are doused. A two-alarm blaze began there Thursday evening, Feb. 2.
Clean-up of Tire Dump in Lorton Ongoing
In early December 2014, the Fairfax County Fire Marshal issued a notice of violation to AAAACo Used Auto Parts in Lorton for more than 1,000 used tires on their property and overflowing into Giles Run, according to Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department spokesman Dan Schmidt.
